I find that I have certain movies I like to watch depending on the time of year. I am actually thankful to live in a part of the country that has seasons unlike some of our 50 states. I looking at you California and Florida. California is like the Dubai of United States and we should start considering it a separate country. I move to do the same with Florida, which has become a land of insanity. Half of the national news stories each day inevitably involve Florida and not in a good way. Senior citizens driving into building, crocodiles, snakes, and other wild animals roaming the residential areas, and probably the weirdest criminals in the nation. I used to wonder why homeless people didn’t work their way to Florida or California to enjoy the milder weather and coastlines. Now I see they are a lot smarter than I gave them credit for. My bad.
Let’s get to the point of this post, which is Halloween movies. But not Halloween movies. If that makes sense. What I am referring to are movies that are best for watching around Halloween, or in the fall, if you live somewhere reasonable. These are movies that encapsulate the spirit of the season. But not movies that are of the horror genre or movies about the Halloween holiday. Those are the subject of countless lists and propaganda fodder. I just made up that last part. I have no idea what that means.
Best kid-friendly Halloweenish movie: Spirited Away
I was late in the game getting to this film, such is the story of my life. My family and I watched it for the first time on Halloween 2015. If you like American movies, live-action comedies about baseball, you are not going to like this movie, probably. Because it’s anime, which is Japanese for “we are better than America at making cars, electronics, and animation”. Sorry, but it’s true, America.
Best Halloweenish movie your kids shouldn’t see: The Thomas Crown Affair
I’m referring to the one with Rene Russo, because she was hot and Pierce Brosnan because he is a much better actor when he is not trying to be James Bond. Yes, I know that this is not the original version of this movie and that many people like the first one better. If you like it so much, write your own blog about that one and get off my back. I really can’t say what this movie has to do with fall other than time of year it takes place is roughly around that season. Oh, and the remake is so much better because of the content that made it to an R-rating when the original was only PG. Just saying. And that’s why your kids shouldn’t see it. Like when I went to see Watchmen in the theater and some idiot brought their two kids who were probably 5-6 years old, probably thinking it was a formulaic Marvel superhero movie. Whoops.
