Bloody Hell

My wife recently asked me what my blood type is and I told her I didn’t know.  I don’t really have a great reason for not knowing it, but I guess I am just using that space in my brain for other, more important things.

These include:

The opening 10 to 12 lines of the Canterbury Tales in the language of Middle English.
The names of the original 150 Pokemon.
The location of the warp whistles in Super Mario Bros. 3 on the NES.
And some other stuff I can’t remember right now.

But why do I need to remember my blood type?  It has never been a point of issue or conflict yet.  I have it on a card in my wallet.  If I need blood, they will either have my wallet and grab the card, I will be at a facility that already knows my blood type or they will do what most doctors do and just guess.

Another thing I can’t remember is all the blood type facts that the people who are always asking about blood type seem to always want to rub in my face.

O negative is the universal soldier.  AB positive is the universal studios receptionist.  I don’t know what else.

I have donated blood a few times, but only because I wanted free snacks.  I wasn’t paying attention to all the medical information.

The whole situation has brought some questions to the forefront and I think we need to discuss them in this forum.

In Mad Max: Fury Road, when the painted dudes are taking blood from someone else and transfusing it into their own bodies, how do they know that the blood types are compatible?  Do some of the painted guys end up dead or have some crazy reactions because of blood type incompatibility?  Maybe that is why they all seem to have mental health issues.  And why do they all constantly say “witness”?  Were they really big fans of Harrison Ford and that was the only movie they had access to?

Also, Max later does the same thing giving his blood to Furiosa later in the movie.  No way they knew their blood types were compatible.  As many things in this movie that seem impossible and unlikely, people living happily through all these blood transfusions is at the top of my list.

So what is the real point of this conversation?

In the movies, people give blood to each other without knowing their blood type and they end up fine.

I don’t know my blood type so stop asking.

If you know your blood type keep it to yourself unless it is necessary to mention it.
