It has been many years since my first experience in the world of Pokemon. I recall a friend mentioning the game which drew my interest. Mainly because I answered willingly to peer pressure in those days. Since he owned the game and thought it was amazing, I had to follow suit.
The game was Pokemon Blue, cleverly named because the cartridge was blue in color. Nintendo has always been full of people who get paid to name their games like: Golf, Zelda (as you may know, Zelda is barely in the game), Baseball, Gotcha! The Sport!, Street Fighter 2010: The Final Fight (which features a dude traversing various planets and which would get more leeway from me had they said 2095 or something, but they picked a year that wasn’t really that far ahead of the year the game came out and it has absolutely nothing to do with the other Street Fighter you may be thinking of).
From the moment I placed that blue cartridge into my green Gameboy, my life changed forever. But mostly just my daily schedule. I would come home from school, play for a while, eat dinner, do a couple things, then instead of going to sleep at a reasonable hour for a school-goer, I would stay up till 12 or 1 am and play. I thought it was drastically important that I catch a Metapod which was a caterpillar in a cocoon that could only use the move “Harden” which didn’t hurt the enemy Pokemon, but did extend the fight by 500%. However, after several hours of training Metapod and gaining experience points, it was worth the end result of Butterfree. In some circles, Butterfree is known as the Chuck Norris of Pokemon because of its ability to kiss ass and take names through multiple Pokemon gyms, and also because of the legend which states Chuck Norris was the product of metamorphosis himself.
Regardless of what you believe about the origin story of Chuck Norris, I can clearly say I played the original Pokemon game more than any other video game I have ever owned. Meanwhile, Nintendo keeps producing more and more Pokemon content including their brief mobile app sensation that lasted almost as long as a fresh group of batteries in my Gameboy. And we suddenly saw many people that previously had never left their homes. At first, me and my wife were confused by the people driving into the local park, stopping, sitting for a couple minutes, then moving to a different part of the park and stopping again. Turns out, they weren’t child predators like I first thought, they were gamers. The more traditional Pokemon games continued to get sophisticated titles like Ruby, Sapphire, and other colors with anticipated games to come which include: Pokemon Purple Mountain’s Majesty and Robin’s Egg Blue.
Now to the question that brought you here (unless you accidentally clicked on the link and read this far in which case I applaud your courage through these dark times).
China will eventually find a way to turn the idea of Pokemon into living animals, and since they have a history of controlling numbers of offspring, it only makes sense they would limit us all to 1 Pokemon. So which would I choose? The choice is difficult. I could pick based on abilities, power, speed, strength, looks, softness of fur, I won’t bother you with the details.
The answer has to be Alakazam. Why? According to sources I would trust with my life or a wikipedia page, I found out Alakazam can outperform computers, learn and remember anything. So I wouldn’t have to use my own brain for intelligent things and could use that space for debating Pokemon and information about blood type. It could use its psychic moves to put anyone to sleep including myself which would be nice, particularly when certain people of short stature in my home need a nap. It would also come in handy in a physical altercation because Alakazam is like a powerful old wizard. He also has the ability to teleport which would help me get places instantaneously without having to drive in this world of crazy people who would rather wreck their car and post a picture of it to Instagram than pay attention to the road. Pretty sure Alakazam could save me from those people.
