Final Update 4/13/Covid-19:
Enter the Dragon tore through The Karate Kid like the claw hand through Bruce Lee’s flesh or like the car glass through the Cobra Kai Sensei’s hands after his students lost the tournament. It wasn’t for a lack of trying. I know a lot of people who really wanted to see The Karate Kid go the distance. Bruce Lee was too tough for Daniel-san and Mr. Miyagi.
Bloodfight continued its streak in the tournament taking out the most popular film of the tournament, Mortal Kombat. It was a well-fought battle with Bloodfight suggested upon victory that Mortal Kombat’s soul was it’s. Grammatically, I don’t think that makes sense, but I also didn’t realize that movies have souls. Always learning something new during this pandemic.
In the final match, I was shocked when my foolproof computer simulating system spit out Bloodfight as the winner of the championship. I was perplexed. Bruce Lee never loses. And Enter the Dragon is basically the genesis for the martial arts tournament sub-genre. My analysis of the fight tells me that Bloodfight won because it contains two tournaments inside one movie with a different main hero in each tournament. None of the other entrants could compete with that. Is it a complete and utter rip-off of Bloodsport? Yes. Yes it is. Do I think Bloodsport is a better movie? Yes. Yes I do. But that’s why we play out these matches. Anyone can win on a given night.
So a big thank you to our sponsors of this year’s tournament. Check out Bloodfight and all of the other movies that battled it out for the championship. Knowledge is Power.
Update 4/1/Covid-19:
The winner’s of the second round the March Bracket Tournament of Champions are as follows:
From the West:
Enter the Dragon (1)
From the East:
The Karate Kid (1)
From the Near East:
Bloodfight (3)
From the Far East
Mortal Kombat (1)
Three of the 1 seeds have made it to the final four without too much of a surprise. Enter the Dragon has dominated all opponents just as Bruce Lee did in the movie. The Karate Kid made it’s way to the final four by sweeping the leg of Battle Creek Brawl. Mortal Kombat defeated Throwdown with a SNES bloodless fatality. And in the upset of the tournament, Bloodfight took a bloody fist to Bloodsport. Both movies have Bolo Yeung as the villain, but Bloodfight is the only one that features a heel kick that literally puts a dent into an opponent’s skull. Did they basically steal the plot from Bloodsport including the villain. Yes, they did.
Update 3/25 in the year of virus, COVID-19:
The winners of the first round of the March Bracket Tournament of Champions are as follows:
From the West:
Enter the Dragon (1)
The Quest (2)
From the East:
The Karate Kid (1)
Battle Creek Brawl (3)
From the Near East:
Bloodsport (1)
Bloodfight (3)
From the Far East:
Mortal Kombat (1)
Throwdown (3)
Wow! A couple of big upsets so far in the tournament. JCVD finds himself with two films (and I stress the word “films”) in the hunt. This weeks matches should be very exciting and it’s really anyone’s game.
I’ve heard some rumors that people are concerned this tournament is rigged. I just want to address that by saying I am deeply hurt by such comments. I take this tournament very seriously as the tournament director, owner, operator, referee, czar, and creator. I have put so much time and effort into this event. Those nasty words really sting and I really hope you all know me enough to realize I would never jeopardize the integrity of this tournament by making up results or forcing the tournament to go in a direction that works best for me.
The matches are entered into a super computer and simulated 1,000 times each to determine which team wins the majority of the time in each match. The computer doesn’t lie. Actually, if you guys could check on me regularly I would appreciate it. I am afraid the computer is becoming too intelligent and is currently planning to overthrow me. Anyway, stay tuned for this week’s matches.
The March Bracket Tournament of Champions
Since many of you are finding yourselves stuck at home and without a yearly basketball bracket to fill out, I have decided to bring a small bit of that joy back to your lives. See, the thing about March basketball brackets is that although a lot of us enter them and often with a monetary betting element, we also tend to lose any chance we had at winning in the first two days. So, below you will find a bracket contest of sorts.
What is in it for me?
Really? At a time like this? You are asking the wrong question. It isn’t about receiving some stupid prize like a 1 in 10,000 chance of winning an all expenses paid cruise. Didn’t you hear, cruising is so out this year. Your prize is a chance to participate in a bracket in March as you normally would. Just when you thought all hope was lost, the brackets were gone, and the government was going to take away all your fun, I have come at the turn of the tide. Like Gandalf, but slightly younger, shorter beard, and no magic abilities.
I have come up with 16 movies that have been seeded and placed against each other in a no holds barred, live fighting tournament to determine which one is the Greatest Fighting Tournament Movie of All Time. Note: some of these movies are fighting contests and not technically tournaments, it wasn’t easy for me to find 16 worthy movies and I am doing my best here, so BACK OFF.
Play by yourself. Play with some friends. Go check to your MySpace page. It is up to you. The power is in your hands. Around each week I will let you know which films have advanced and which have been eliminated. Watch the movies if you dare. I mean, what else do you have to do right now anyway?
Please show your support of Facebook, write in your winners and picks. May the odds be acceptable for a silly fake contest on the internet in lieu of a real tournament, oh, and ever in your favor.
